Way Kambas National Park

Way Kambas National Park is representative of lowland forest ecosystem consisting of freshwater swamp forests, grasslands / shrub, and coastal forests in Sumatra, Indonesia.

Plant species in national parks, among other fires (Avicennia marina), Pidada (Sonneratia sp.), Nipah (Nypa fruticans), Gelam (Melaleuca leucadendron), salam (Syzygium polyanthum), mire (Glochidion borneensis), ketapan (Terminalia cattapa), sea pine (Casuarina equisetifolia), pandan (Pandanus sp.), puspa (Schima wallichii), meranti (Shorea sp.), oil (Dipterocarpus gracilis), and ramin (Gonystylus bancanus).

Way Kambas National Park has 50 species of mammals including the Sumatran rhino (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis sumatrensis), Sumatran elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus), Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae), tapirs (Tapirus indicus), coyotes (Cuon alpinus sumatrensis), gibbon (Hylobates syndactylus syndactylus); 406 forest bird species including ducks (Cairina scutulata), yarn and clothing stork (Ciconia episcopus stormi), stork barrels (Leptoptilos javanicus), blue sempidan (Lophura ignita), kuau (Argusianus argus argus), Little Cormorant snake ( Anhinga melanogaster); different types of reptiles, amphibians, fish, and insects.

Wild elephants are trained at the Elephant Training Centre (9 km from the green signpost gate) can be used as elephant riding, attractions, transport of wood and plow fields. At the elephant training center, can be witnessed trainers educate and train wild elephants, watching the elephant playing ball, dancing, shaking hands, respectful, draping flowers, tug of war, swimming and many other attractions.

Elephant training center was founded in 1985. Until now, this has been successfully educating and tame elephants about 290 tails.

Way Kanan river scour, animal observation (forest ducks, egrets, deer, migratory birds), grassland and mangrove forest.

Cultural attractions outside the Park: Krakatoa Festival in July in Bandar Lampung.
The best visiting season: July to September each year.

How to reach the location: Bandar Lampung, Sumatra-Metro-Way Jepara use the car for about two hours (112 km), airport Branti-Metro-Way Jepara about one hour 30 minutes (100 km), Bakauheni-Long-Way-Sribawono Jepara around three hours (170 km), Bakauheni-Labuan Meringgai-Way Kambas about two hours.
